Graduate Student Representatives
Karen has stepped down to finish her thesis. Amy Howard is stepping in.
In addition to this, we'll be forming a student leadership committee with specialized focuses on career/professional development and networking/social programming. For example, on the professional development side, students would assist with organizing student invited speakers. On the networking side, students would assist in the organization of social events in the department (either for graduate students only or as a whole). Being a member of this committee will allow students flexibility in various leadership roles throughout the department with a single title for your CV. This committee by no means is a requisite for leadership involvement in the department (for example, being on the retreat committee), but is being developed because there seems to be a group of students strongly interested in certain aspects of being a student representative, but not excited about all the responsibilities of the position. If you are interested in possibility being part of this committee, please let me know! We will have a meeting sometime soon to see where people's interests are.
Triangle Cytoskeleton Meeting (TCM), which will aim to bring together researchers across multiple disciplines and institutions (UNC, Duke, State, NIEHS), to foster interdisciplinary research, develop novel methods and establish new networks among researchers. An all day conference is being held at RTP September 12th.Visit the website or contact Karen Plevock for more information.
