Anh Nguyen, PhD
Anh Nguyen has been awarded the 20101 Diane Harris Leadership Award for her exemplary public service as a doctoral student in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Anh is a recent graduate was presented with her plaque and award check during the 3rd Annual Graduate Student Recognition Awards event. The department elected to create this award in honor of Diane Harris, who retired in 2007 after 20+ years as student services manager, a position she held with great dedication and loyalty.
Anh trained with Dr. Yi Zhang, Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry & Biophysics and HHMI Investigator. Her work involved investigating the mechanisms involved in leukemogenesis. She focused on the role of hDOT1, a non-SET-domain-containing H3K79 methyltransferase, in transformation abilities of mixed lineage leukemia (MLL)-fusion proteins. Anh is currently a postdoctoral fellow working in Dr. Gary Owens lab in the Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia.
