Wolfgang Bergmeier, PhD

The Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostatis is the official journal of the ISTH (https://www.isth.org/) and is the leading speciality journal in its area. As an Associate Editor, Dr. Bergmeier will have the main responsibility for manuscripts in the area of platelet research, but not limited to manuscripts in this field of haemostasis, over which he would have direct editorial control and decision making. There is an annual honorarium ($1000) provided by ISTH for Associate Editors.

Dr. Bergmeier joined UNC as a faculty of Biochemistry and Biophysics with a joint appointment in the UNC McAllister Heart Institute. Research in his lab focuses on the adhesion mechanisms of platelets and neutrophils to sites of vascular injury/activation. His group is particularly interested in the role of calcium (Ca2+) as a signaling molecule that regulates the inside-out activation of integrin receptors.
