In keeping with last year’s ranking, the Department continues to rank fourth among all Biochemistry departments in the US.

We received over $18.6 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2013. According to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR), this ranks us fourth among all Biochemistry departments and if considering just public institutions, that would make us the 2nd highest NIH funded biochemistry program. We are proud of our faculty for their hard work and accomplishments! Of special note is that Ronald Swanstrom still ranks seventh among all principal investigators in Biochemistry for total NIH dollars.
