There is no question that ongoing research at UNC in women's health is extensive and diverse. For this reason, UNC is ideally suited to respond to the BIRCWH Program initiative which seeks to improve the health of women through support of interdisciplinary research. The three research themes, all of which represent contemporary topics in biomedical research, range from basic science to translational and clinical studies. We believe that each theme brings together in a cohesive way the elements of women's health research that showcase the particular strengths of UNC, and illustrates the multidisciplinary nature of these endeavors. Our mentor pool is comprised of qualified and talented investigators, many of whom have interest that span multiple themes. Furthermore, there were many more potential mentors than we could include in this proposal. We have therefore selected those individuals whose research interests are most representative of the interdisciplinary focus of this RFA. In addition, for the purposes of organization, each investigator has been included under only one of the chosen research themes.   |
