Charlotte Boettiger

Caterina M. Gallippi, Ph.D.

  • Assistant Professor
  • Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering
  • cmgallip@bme.unc.edu
  • Research Interests:  Advancing modern diagnostic ultrasonic imaging technology.  She implements novel methods, such as Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) and Shear Wave Elasticity Imaging (SWEI), to improve delineation of diseases such as atherosclerosis and cancer.  ARFI and SWEI imaging methods a unique to conventional ultrasound approaches because they assess the mechanical, rather than the echogenic, properties of tissue.  In addition, Dr. Gallippi is pursuing novel targeted contrast ultrasound approaches that exploit the Rehydrated Lyophilized (RL) platelet.

Kelly Giovanello

  • Assistant Professor
  • Department of Psychology
  • kgio@email.unc.edu
  • Research Interests: Behavioral, patient-based, and functional neuroimaging approaches to investigate the cognitive neuroscience of human learning and memory. Dr. Giovanello heads the UNC Cognitive Neuroscience of Memory Laboratory for additional information:

Amy Oldenburg

  • Assistant Professor
  • Department of Physics
  • aold@physics.unc.edu
  • Research Interests: Optical coherence tomography for clinical diagnostics, tissue biopsy
analysis, and fundamental research studies in animal models.  Interests include the development of novel optical contrast agents including metallic nanoparticles, and optical elastography imaging.

Dinggang Shen

  • Associate Professor
  • Department of Radiology
  • dgshen@med.unc.edu
  • Research interests: Medical image analysis with applications in brain diseases (AD, Schizophrenia), breast cancer, cardiac diagnosis, and prostate cancer biopsy. The developed methods include deformable registration (HAMMER, CLASSIC, and ORBIT), deformable segmentation (AFDM), and multivariate pattern classification algorithms (COMPARE and STEP).
