The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center is committed to conducting ongoing clinical studies through its Burn Clinical Research Group to expand our knowledge of the ways in which the body heals from burn injuries. The group is currently conducting a number of clinical trials, many of which are studies for newer medications and treatments. There are also studies that do not involve medications, but rather involve using samples of blood and other specimens collected with the permission of patients when routine tests or procedures are done to help doctors and researchers learn more about various diseases and/or about our patient population in general.

Our People

The Burn Clinical Research Group's principal investigators are faculty members Dr. Bruce Cairns and Dr. Samuel Jones. The group's study coordinators are Teresa Gingerich and Carrie Nielsen, MA.

Study coordinators may ask patients to participate in research when they come to the hospital with a burn injury or when they are in clinic. The research group works closely with clinical care teams (doctors, nurses and coordinators) to make research experiences worthwhile. The Burn Center depends on research to continue cutting-edge treatment, and without patients' contributions it would not be possible.
