Outreach
The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center’s outreach effort continues to expand and to benefit people in every corner of the state. Ernest Grant, RN, BSN, MSN, is coordinator of the nationally acclaimed outreach program. Among the programs taught by Grant, Learn Not to Burn was developed by the National Fire Protection Association and is funded in North Carolina primarily by gifts to the Burn Center endowment.
In 1999, Mr. Grant brought to North Carolina a burn and fall prevention program for senior citizens. The program, also created by the Fire Prevention Association, is called Remembering When.
Throughout the year, Mr. Grant and other members of the Burn Center staff offer a wide variety of educational programs to stimulate interest in burn care. For example, each year a three-day course in burn care is offered to intensive care and emergency care nurses and EMS personnel throughout the state. All of this contributes to better emergency care for the burn victims statewide.
