Teen Adventure Weekend

The next Teen Adventure Weekend at Camp New Hope in Chapel Hill is planned for August 24-26, 2012.

Teens who have been burned experience additional frustrations at a time when so much emphasis is put on looks and fitting in. This weekend adventure is for burn survivors, ages 13-17. The weekend offers a variety of experiences that change from year to year, but always focus on team building and character development.

Teen Adventure Weekend provides the opportunity for continued contact with teen survivors at a time when growth and changing life stages could mean specific challenges related to the burn injury. Aftercare can have a great impact in developing the skills to cope with these changes. By maintaining contact with these young survivors, the burn staff hope to continue developing their leadership skills and to encourage them to stay involved in the burn community as counselors in training, adult counselors, and/or positive peer supporters.

Like Camp Celebrate, the weekend includes a variety of fun and fellowship. The location varies and may take place in different parts of the state. There are opportunities for volunteers to be involved and especially for adult survivors to be involved as counselors and mentors. Space is limited.
