2010 Program Details

Session 1a: Operations

Dates: July 12 and 13, 2010

Schedule: Monday 12-7 pm and Tuesday 8 am-5 pm before NCAEMSA

Location: Asheville

Agenda/Topics: Introduction, yearlong assignment for each working group, legal and ethical aspects of EMS, public speaking, communications, medical disaster leadership. Systems analysis and resources, county government model, private model, hospital model, fire-rescue model, other models. Linkage with emergency management and public health.


Session 1b: Finance and Accounting

Dates: October 1, 2, and 3, 2010

Schedule: Friday 12-7 pm, Saturday 8 am-5 pm, and Sunday 8 am-12 pm before EM Today

Location: Greensboro

Agenda/Topics: Cost analysis, budgets, accounting, financial tools, developing cost templates for day-to-day operations, cost templates for a mass casualty or medical disaster.


Session 2a: Public Information, Marketing, Revenue

Dates: November 22 and 23, 2010

Schedule: Monday 12-7 pm, Tuesday 8 am-5 pm before Thanksgiving
(PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE. The day before Thanksgiving was dropped and will be added to the March/April Program.)

Location: Chapel Hill

Agenda/Topics: Public Presentations; FEMA reimbursements and payments for disasters and facility evacuations; Developing Public Safety Announcements (PSAs); publication materials; Negotiation skills and conflict resolution.


Session 2b: Management

Dates: February 7 and 8, 2011

Schedule: Monday 12-7 pm and Tuesday 8 am-5 pm before NCEMSA

Location: Wilmington

Agenda/Topics: Day-to-day operations, peak staffing, deployment strategies, surge staffing, mass casualty response and disaster staffing.


Session 3: Leadership and Innovation, and EMS Revenue

Dates: April 12 -16, 2011

Schedule: Tuesday 12-7 pm, Wednesday 8 am-5 pm, Thursday 7 am-5 pm, Friday 8 am-5 pm, and Saturday 8 am-3 pm

Location: Chapel Hill

Agenda/Topics: Creating a team. Team building. Personal development. Presentation skills, packaging and delivering your message, delivering good and difficult news, rumor control. Lead organizations during a disaster. Billing for Services, collections, CMS, Medicaid, commercial payers, stand-by-fees, group presentations. Wrap up and graduation.
