Education
As part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, the Department of Surgery and the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center provide rigorous training for medical students, general surgery residents and burn fellows.
Medical Students - Burn surgery rotations are available to third- and fourth-year medical students at the School of Medicine and to visiting fourth-year medical students. Students learn about all aspects of patient care through burn surgery clerkships and fourth-year courses.
General Surgery Residents - General surgery residents complete rotations in burn surgery and have the opportunity to become acting chief residents in post-graduate year 3.
Burn Fellowship Program - Burn surgery fellows gain multidisciplinary training to treat all the complex medical problems burn patients experience. Fellows receive intensive clinical training as well as engage in ongoing research projects.
