On Thursday, April 18, 2013 the Duke Energy Family Room was dedicated at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. Duke Energy has supported and partnered with the Burn Center from its beginning in 1981. Renovation of the Family Room was supported by a gift of $300,00 from Duke Energy in 2006. Because this space is for families who use this as a base while supporting their loved ones we changed the name from "waiting room" to "Family Room".
Dr. Bruce Cairns, Director of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center was joined by Paul Newton, Jennifer Pittman, Steve Cranfill, Dewitt Smith,(Steve and Dewitt are also members of the Burn Center Advisory Board) and Indira Everett, all from Duke Energy in addition to Chancellor Holden Thorp, Gary Park, Mary Tonges, Anthony Meyer, Julia Grumbles, Mark Meares, Mary Margaret Carroll, Brooke Church and Angela Nolan from UNC and UNC Health Care for the presentation of the Duke Energy Family Room sign and ribbon cutting. Several members of the Burn Center Advisory Board were on hand for the dedication including Wes Googe, John Strickland, Jocelyn Hardee, Linda Harris and others.
Following the ribbon cutting the group from Duke Energy toured the Burn Center with Dr. Bruce Cairns. The Burn Center looks forward to continued partnership with Duke Energy, NC Electric Cooperatives, and Advisory Board.
