Dr. Preston “Chip” Rich has current academic appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as Associate Professor of Surgery with tenure for the Department of Surgery and Adjunct Associate Professor – Department of Anesthesiology. He currently serves as the Division Chief of Trauma and Critical Care Services. His specialties include trauma, critical care and acute care surgery. Dr. Rich’s research includes development of hemostatic agents, membrane oxygenation and liquid ventilation, and Biomolecular mechanisisms of mechanotransduction. Dr. Rich is board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Dr. Rich is currently a certified Level II Firefighter, HAZMAT Operations Tech and Structural Collapse Rescue Technician for NC Task Force 8. He also has experience as a physician for fixed and rotary wing Physician Flight Crew for Midwest Medflight Aeromedical Transport.
