Registering for ACLS, BLS recertification

Recertification through Option 1

If you select Option 1 (an 8+ hour recertification course), please register on One45, ranking your preferences, at least five, for particular sessions. Those ranking early dates as their first choice are most likely to receive their preferred date.

Registration will be open for two weeks, starting the week of November 2, and closing on Sunday, November 15. One45 will use a lottery to assign students to sessions based on the preferences submitted when you rank the available dates. The lottery is in your To Do list, labeled “undergrad schedule”. You will receive another email with additional details for participating in the lottery.

You will be responsible for finding a session that best accommodates your clerkship and interview schedules. You will be expected to attend the session for which you register, unless you can find another student willing to switch groups and attending the ENTIRE session. If more students request a particular session than we can accommodate, the One45 system will supply a lottery to make the distribution as fair as possible.

BLS elearning requirement

You must have completed the online BLS elearning program prior to your ACLS session. The online BLS program may be accessed via the American Heart Association website.

Please note that there are two possible on-line elearning programs for BLS. Both are Health Care Provider, the mandated CPR for medical professionals. Either course is acceptable, depending on your level of comfort with basic CPR and is at your own expense.

  • #80-1055, BLS for Healthcare Providers Online Course Part 1 lists for $17.50, and provides less instruction than #80-1470.
  • #80-1470, HeartCode BLS Online Part 1 list for $28.50, and gives more extensive practice.

For either course, you will print a certificate of completion after completing the online course. You MUST present that certificate at your ACLS session to complete the certification process.

Recertification through Option 2

If you select Option 2 (elearning ACLS course & 1 hour skills check), please notify Frances Smith (fsmith@aims.unc.edu) of your choice.  She will schedule students wishing a quicker skills check in lieu of a full day recertification course.

For either Option 1 or Option 2, we will start the ACLS session with BLS skills checks. You must have completed the online BLS elearning program prior to your ACLS session.  Please see info on BLS elearning program above.
