July 2011 – Graduate student Eric Ubil will be supported by an American Heart Association (AHA) predoctoral fellowship for his project “Role of mesenchymal-to-epithelial transition in cardiac repair” in the Deb lab. This two-year fellowship provides $23,000 towards stipend and insurance.

AHA predoctoral fellowships aim to “help students initiate careers in cardiovascular and stroke research by providing research assistance and training” and fund research that is “broadly related to cardiovascular function and disease and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering or biotechnology, and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts.”

Out of 79 applications reviewed for the July 1, 2011 award date, only 16 were funded.
