November 2012 – Professor James Faber received a new four-year R01 grant totaling more than $1.9 million dollars from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. The grant will identify collateral rarefaction as a risk factor for severe ischemic disease, define therapeutic approaches to prevent it, and identify a novel structural/gene expression phenotype that distinguishes collaterals from vessels of the general circulation and is essential for their persistence and function. Professor Robert Sealock and Assistant Professors Hua Zhang and Jennifer Lucitti are co-investigators on this award.
