Biography
Dr. Miloslav Kopecek graduated in 1998 from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. After his psychiatric residency at the Prague Psychiatric Centre (1998-2002) he served at the same institution as staff psychiatrist and since 2004 he has served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the 3rd School of Medicine. Dr. Kopecek co-founded The Centre for Treatment of Resistant Depressive Disorder and The rTMS Laboratory at the Prague Psychiatric Centre. He went on to finish his PhD in Neuroscience in 2006. In January 2007 he accepted a Postdoctoral research position with Dr. Soares at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. Since March 2007 Dr. Kopecek has been working at the newly established research center, the UNC Center of Excellence for Research and Treatment of Bipolar Disorder at the Department of Psychiatry in Chapel Hill. Dr. Kopecek has clinical and research experiences with PET neuroimaging, experimental and clinical use of rTMS, as well as extensive experience in the assessment of cognition. He is interested in psychopharmacology and e-medicine. During his stay in the USA he will teach cognitive function courses at the 3rd School of Medicine in Prague via online classes.
