Is Something Not Quite Right?

The PRIME Research Program has been established to better understand the causes, course, and treatment of basic symptoms. Basic symptoms are changes in thinking, mood, and perception. Basic symptoms can include unusual thinking (the feeling that something odd is going on); suspiciousness (feeling that others are laughing at or talking about you); misperceiving sounds, smells, or things seen (hearing your name called, but no one is there); disorganized thinking (trouble getting your point across or trouble understanding what others are trying to say); or social withdrawal (you don't feel like being around other people).

The PRIME Research Program is currently seeking individuals ages 14-35 who are experiencing basic symptoms OR who have a parent or sibling with a psychotic disorder and have had a drop in functioning in the past year. Having basic symptoms or having a relative with a psychotic disorder does NOT mean you will develop a mental illness. The goal of our studies is to learn what factors determine which at-risk individuals will go on to develop a mental illness.
