Mood disorders related to reproduction in women are common, serious and even potentially life threatening, yet they are often overlooked by the medical profession and by those funding research. Consequently, there are few specialty centers that focus on the treatment of women’s reproductive mood disorders, which is a contributing factor to inadequate treatment and under diagnosis.

This symposium seeks to help bridge the gaps in knowledge of both the etiology and current treatment strategies in the areas of perinatal psychiatry (depression during pregnancy and postpartum), and the menstrually related mood disorders (premenstrual dysphoria and perimenopausal depression).
