The Duke Endowment
The Child Medical Evaluation Program received a three year grant from The Duke Endowment, for the establishment of Regional Centers for Child Maltreatment and Assault in North Carolina. The purpose of these centers is to provide high quality service for all children in our state. By linking community clinicians from across North Carolina with regional centers throughout the state, the grant enables those who serve children to become and remain trained in the areas of child maltreatment and assault. This regional system coordinates the care for children who are maltreated, by creating an infrastructure to address these victims of family violence. The Regional Training Centers are located in Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem.
Spreading these services across the state, through a system of referrals and consultation with expert clinicians, enhances the ability to provide a multi-disciplinary approach for the care of children who are maltreated.
Training is available to community physicians, residents (hands on and didactic) and non-physician clinicians. Interview training is available to DSS and Law Enforcement. Additionally, from September to June, two different televideo conferences are held; one for medical personnel, the other for Forensic Interviewers.
