System Access

UNC Health Care System

Access to information systems and computer applications used within UNC Health Care System requires the completion and approval of a System Access Request Form (SARF). 

Obtaining SARF and Instructions for Completion

This form, and instructions for completing and returning, is available at these locations:

·         http://www.unch.unc.edu/secur/sarf0401.doc UNC HCS intranet site.

·         ISD Customer Support Center in 1st floor Anderson; phone 966-5647 or 966-7652

·         Information Security Administrator (ISA) in Hedrick; phone 966-4444

Completion of MD Code section on the SARF is required for credentialing purposes.

Submitting SARF

Complete SARF, secure written approval and submit to:

Information Security Administration

Suite 2091, Hedrick Building

Or FAX to: 966-1053.

Notification of User Access

ISA will send the User ID and Password information to the Resident Coordinator at their departmental mailing location.  The Resident Coordinator distributes this information to their new residents.

School of Medicine

Access to the School of Medicine Information Network (SOMIN) must be coordinated through the School of Medicine Office of Information System (OIS) at 966-9900.

ISD Training & User Support

UNC Health Care System offers end user computer application and training on the Health Care System’s applications on a regular basis.  It is possible to arrange customized classes, telephone consultation or individual training sessions as required and according to business need.

Computer Training Opportunities

Go to http://www.unch.unc.edu/bulletin/ for Course Descriptions, Schedules, Information, Pre-requisites, and Registration information.  This site also provides information about training opportunities offered through UNC's Academic Technology and Networks (ATN).  ISD Training & User Support distributes monthly an Information email to Department Heads and Supervisors with future course schedules.

UNC Health Care Systems’ Applications

WebCIS (Web-based Clinical Information System)

The Web-based Clinical Information System (WebCIS) is an integrated web-based application set that allows a clinician to retrieve and document most components of the patient’s medical record.  This application provides valuable and convenient access to on-line medical records such as lab test results; reports such as discharge summaries, history & physical, and radiology with online images; progress notes; allergies; and, medications. 

Scheduling information is available as is the physician’s Activity list, which includes Messages, Correspondence and other items requiring timely attention or electronic signature.  Internet based medical resources are hyperlinked and easily accessible.

ISD Training & User Support offers a WebCIS class and includes instruction to navigate through the application.

Email

UNC Health Care System uses Microsoft Outlook as the standard email application.  Microsoft Outlook Web Access enables users to receive and send Email from a web browser at any location.

ISD Training & User Support offers a Microsoft Outlook Email and Calendar class that includes instruction for web access.

Siemens (SMS) Basics

Access to Siemens is necessary for the capture, recording and viewing of demographic patient information, appointments, census, orders, admissions, discharges, and other clinical data.  Siemens is accessible on designated personal computers and clinical workstations throughout the UNC Health Care System complex.

ISD Training & User Support offers a Siemens (SMS) Basics Computer Based Training (CBT) module and includes how to find a patient, covers user access, navigation with the Siemens pathways, self-help tools through Help and Education screens, and other special commands using the keyboard.

Picture Archiving and Communication Systems – PACS

Online digital images are available for viewing for clinical purposes using PACS.  In addition to being a stand-alone web-based application, access to PACS is also available using WebCIS for radiology reports having online images. 

ISD Training & User Support offers a PACS class and includes instruction for accessing images within the application.

Customer Support Center

A Customer Support Center (CSC) help desk service is available to UNC Health Care Systems’ application users who experience computer related difficulties.  When you call the CSC, you have access to all the services provided by Information Services Division.

Information to Help CSC Help you

Depending on the complexity of the problem, second level support may be required and it is imperative that you provide CSC with as much information as possible to assist in diagnosing the problem.
