Responsibilities

As director my primary responsibilities are to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the facility, champion my core facilities services here at UNC, and lend my technical and scientific expertise to investigators working with us.

Training and Background

As a graduate student in the Laboratory of Dr. Daved H. Fremont at Washington University School of Medicine, my projects involved studying the structural and functional aspects of many classical, non-classical, and virally encoded Major HistoCompatibility (MHC) family proteins using a wide variety of techniques, with X-ray crystallography at the forefront.  Additionally, the exceptional training environment provided by the pathology and immunology department at WashU familiarized me with a wide variety of immunological research and methodology.

As a postdoctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Dr. Matthew R. Redinbo here at UNC, I focused on understanding the structure and function of key enzymes involved with human drug metabolism, bacterial conjugation, and mycobacterial survival. In addition to strengthening my crystallographic knowledge, I gained experience with biochemical techniques, as I developed numerous binding and activity assays for a variety of enzymes.
