Health Affairs Interdisciplinary Case Conferences (HAICC)
HAICC 2009 March 23 & 24 6-9:30pmSince 2000 the Offices of Medical Education, in collaboration with colleagues from the School of Medicine and its Allied Health Programs, Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Social Work and Nursing, has worked to implement the Health Affairs Interdisciplinary Case Conferences (HAICC). The funding comes from each participating professional school and supports an interdisciplinary experience for more than 600 students and more than seventy faculty during the spring semester. For the 2008-2009 academic year, students from the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences, and Nutrition Sciences will participate in interdisciplinary small groups to learn about each other's professions, learn about teamwork in a healthcare setting using TeamSTEPPS, interview a standardized patient and develop a patient-centered management plan using a World Health Organization model. There will be no physical exams given to any patient. Each interdisciplinary group will be led by a faculty facilitator.
