The Heart of Healing: Repairing the Mother/Child Relationship in Substance Abuse Treatment


The challenges faced by women struggling with addiction are unique and complex. Join UNC Horizons for a day of comprehensive and enlightening presentations designed to help service providers empower clients to overcome the impact of addiction on their lives, and the lives of their children.

The event, titled The Heart of Healing: Repairing the Mother/Child Relationship in Substance Abuse Treatment, will be held Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the William & Ida Center for Continuing Education.

Dr. Lauren Jansson will present the morning keynote on The Substance Exposed Child and Mother: Clinical and Research Perspectives. Dr. Jansson is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University. She is an internationally known expert on treating neonatal abstinence syndrome.

Honorable Beverly A. Scarlett will present the afternoon keynote on Helping Women and Children Touched by Addiction: The Role of the Court. Judge Scarlett was appointed to the District Court bench in 2007 and served as primary judge for Orange Co. Adult Drug Treatment Court.
