April 2009

Dear Friends of CCCDP and CASTLE:

We wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about our involvement in The Great Human Race. This will be our second year participating in this wonderful event. The Great Human Race is a nationwide community fundraising event for nonprofit organizations. The Triangle area race features a 5k competitive run and a 5k community walk through downtown Durham. The event provides an opportunity for any nonprofit agency, school, or faith based group to raise money for their programs and enables businesses and individuals to support the nonprofit of their choice. As a participating agency, CASTLE is able to receive 85% of monies collected and the Volunteer Center of Durham receives the remaining percentage to coordinate and stage the event.

The race takes place on Saturday March 21st, 2009. It begins and ends at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Last year we were able to raise enough funds that we will soon be doing some renovations on our playground. This year we are being a little more ambitious. We all know how enriching music can be to a child both in their education and their general development. Just because a child has a hearing loss doesn’t mean that music is out of reach! With the help of technology and specialized training, children who are deaf and hard of hearing can learn to enjoy music, play instruments, and even sing. We would like to bring these opportunities to our children.

There are many different ways that you can help. You can join us in the competitive run/walk, join us in the non-competitive fun walk, just do some fundraising without walking, or send us a donation.
