Pediatric Programs
Pediatric Audiology provides hearing diagnostic and rehabilitation services to infants and children having a wide range of hearing disorders. Pediatric Audiology works closely with UNC Hospital’s Infant Hearing Screening Program to identify and diagnose hearing loss within the first weeks of life. The identification/diagnostic process is closely linked with a comprehensive program of early intervention, insuring the availability of important auditory information during the early, critical intervals of hearing development. If hearing aids aren't able to provide adequate amplification for speech and language development, the child may be referred to the pediatric cochlear implant team.
As one of the largest pediatric cochlear implant programs in the country, the UNC Pediatric Cochlear Implant Team is committed to following implant at patients as they develop, supporting a team approach, and assuring that each child's technology is functioning properly.
The Carolina Children's Communicative Disorders Program (CCCDP) offers financial assistance to families of children with hearing loss. The CCCDP is funded by the state of North Carolina and offers financial assistance to families for hearing aids and cochlear implant technology.
The Center for Acquisition of Spoken Language Through Listening Enrichment (CASTLE) is dedicated to providing quality auditory-oral early intervention and preschool services to children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families.
