 Michael Barakat MD

Michael Barakat

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Hobbies/Interests:
My hobbies include exploring, traveling, rabble-rousing, extreme walking, super sweet dance moves, enjoying a robust coffee and utilizing superfluous adjectives.

Why I chose UNC:
I came to UNC because this program is money. UNC is arguably the best public academic hospital in the country, and without a doubt, WakeMed is the best "community" hospital you will find anywhere. They are like the Batman and Robin of hospitals. On top of that, our leadership is dedicated to making this the best residency in the country and is improving it constantly and it shows. Lastly, the basketball team is amazing, the Triangle area is a great place to live, and what's not to like about Powder Blue?

Hobbies/Interests:
There's not much spare time, but when I do come up for air, I like to ride my mountain bike, cook, visit my queen and try new beer.

Why I chose UNC:
UNC is a great place for me because of the superior educational experience and the phenomenal residents with whom I work.

Hobbies/Interests:
When I'm not working, I enjoy working out and exercising (step, kickboxing, cross training). I love running and I just developed a new joy for running outside thanks to this beautiful NC weather! I absolutely LOVE to dance and take hip hop dance classes weekly and go out dancing when I can. I also enjoy reading, hanging out with friends and family, going to church, watching the HGTV channel and decorating my townhouse.

Why I chose UNC:
I really love it here at UNC because the people are AWESOME! The faculty is very warm, open, friendly, and very responsive to your suggestions and concerns. The chief residents and my fellow residents work hard to create a family like environment. I have to say my intern class is the best class ever hands down :)

Why I chose UNC:
I chose UNC because of the great people, area, and weather. During my visiting rotation I noticed the attendings all enjoyed teaching, the residents were all great friends, and UNC offered a great combination of clinical experience in both an academic and private environment.

Hobbies/Interests:
I like to spend my free time outside. NC has great hiking trails and running paths and several lakes with kayaks for rent. You also might find me in a sun dress if there's bluegrass to be heard.

Why I chose UNC:
I chose UNC for the residents and the cheese grits, both the best in the country.

Hobbies/Interests:
My interests include road cycling (the roads are awesome here), oil painting, and running with my dog.

Why I chose UNC:
I chose UNC because I went to medical school here, and after interviewing all over the country, I confirmed that we are indeed the best! Our program director works hard to make sure that our program is constantly improving and genuinely listens to our feedback.

Hobbies/Interests:
I enjoy anything outdoors, hiking, running, mountain biking, going to the local parks and lakes, cooking and hanging out with my classmates... and Shiki sushi.

Why I chose UNC:
I chose UNC after being very impressed on my interview day by the quality of faculty and residents. I wanted a place that had room to grow and was flexible enough to let me blaze my own trail if desired, and the amazing leaders here at UNC make that possible. The support network is amazing, nurses and ancillary staff fabulous, and if you have already noticed the trend... the people, the people, the people!!!

Why I chose UNC:
