Annually, the American Head and Neck Society (ANHS) and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) selects a recipient of the Translational Innovator Award. The Translational Innovator Award is given to support full time academic surgeons completing contemporary basic or clinical research focused on neoplastic disease of the head and neck. As the research is conducted, the ANHS and AAO-HNSF hope to promote translational research with biomarker ideas.
Jose P. Zevallos, MD, MPH, FACS proposed the study entitle "Targeted Sequencing of HPV-positive Oropharyngeal Cancer Treatment Failures" which will receive funding through the award over the next two years in the amount of $30,000. Studying the failures among HPV-positive patients is essential to the Head and Neck Cancer field and Dr. Zevallos research will generate answers as well as new questions in the field of medicine.
