Dabigatran Management Guide Available on UNC Health Care Intranet

Reminder: Health Sciences Library Survey

This message is sent on behalf of Dr. Brian Goldstein

I want to thank the more than three hundred of you who already completed the survey. To the rest, I am making one more plea -- your survey responses are very important information for the Health Sciences Library (HSL) as it buys and manages the information resources you use every day to support your patient care work. Please take ten minutes to do the survey. Remember, you should have in mind specific examples of what resources (e.g. UpToDate, specific journals) you have used in recent patient care.

Please visit http://www.ssgresearch.com/value026 to complete a ten-minute Web-based survey. You can read more about the survey here.

Dabigatran Management Guide Available on UNC Health Care Intranet

Dabigatran (Pradaxa) is a new oral anticoagulant that is an alternative to warfarin for prevention of thromboembolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.   It is now available on the UNC Health Care Formulary. The drug is available in CPOE as of today and is in stock in inpatient and the outpatient pharmacy areas.

A guide to management of dabigatran is available at the link below.  It includes information on dosing, switching between dabigatran and other anticoagulants, and treatment of bleeding in a patient receiving dabigatran.  We are also creating a learning module for this drug that we hope to distribute by the end of the month.

If you have any questions, please contact the Drug Information Service at 919-966-2373.
