March 24

Dear Colleagues:

We have heard your concerns about e-mail overload and the frequency of using mobile devices to read email. We are going to do our best to (1) reduce the number of e-mails we send you by bundling them, (2) format them in a mobile-friendly way, and (3) in the near future, set up and maintain an online archive so that if you need to search for something you can find it.

We hope this will help us share important clinical information with you in the most efficient way possible. We are happy to hear your comments.

Thank you,

Tony Lindsey

Policy on Obstetrical Consults

With the assistance of Dr. Robert Strauss, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the medical staff policy regarding Obstetrical consultations has been updated and approved by the Medical Staff Executive Committee.  This policy, copied below, is an attempt to enhance the care of pregnant patients throughout the hospital.

Consultation with the Obstetrical service is required when a known pregnant woman is admitted to a service other than Family Medicine or Obstetrics and Gynecology. A preoperative consultation with the Obstetrical service is also required when an inpatient or outpatient operative or other interventional procedure requiring moderate or deep sedation or anesthesia is planned for a known pregnant woman. This consultation should be requested at the time of surgical scheduling.

Faculty Survey on Technical Skills for Medical Students

We have put together a survey to gauge faculty opinion as to the importance of obtaining competence of basic technical skills during medical school. I have asked the students to take a similar survey and I am interested in comparing the responses of the faculty to those of the students. I appreciate in advance your help in completing this. It should take no more than 3 minutes of your time.  The link below will take you to the survey.
