CV or Biosketch

Anthony Viera is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. He also holds appointments as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and in the Public Health Leadership Program. In addition to seeing patients in the Family Medicine Center, he plays an active role in resident and medical student education. He is the Director of the UNC MD-MPH Program, and he currently holds a Medical Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professorship.

He has published CrossWardsTM Step 1 and CrossWardsTM Step 2, each an innovative USMLE Board Review book that uses puzzles to review key material. He was also co-editor for the Sixth Edition of Essentials of Family Medicine. He also co-edited Management and Leadership Skills for Medical Faculty: a Practical Handbook. Anthony is also active in research, with over 150 published articles and over $16 million received in federal grant support as an Investigator.

Anthony earned a B.S. in Biology from Wofford College, an M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina and an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed Family Medicine Residency at Naval Hospital Jacksonville and served in the United States Navy from 1996 to 2004. He came to UNC as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar in 2004 and has been here since that time.
