Family Medicine Center Lab Only Appointments
UNC Family Medicine Center is now offering lab only appointments!
Lab Hours
- Monday-Thursday 8:15am-5:30pm
- Closed for Lunch 12:30pm-1pm
- Friday 8:15am-5:15pm
- Closed for Lunch 12:30pm-1pm
- Saturday 8:15am-12 noon
- All patients are required to check-in at the Front Desk on the day of your appointment. Please do not go directly to the Lab.
- Lab patients getting tested for glucose (blood sugar) and cholesterol (lipids) should not eat anything after 10pm the night before, or at least 8 hours prior to, your scheduled appointment. Patient should be fasting (no food or liquids) after 10pm.
- Drink plenty of water before your visit.
Lab Only Appointments
If you decide to make a lab only appointment at the time of your visit...
- Anyone who is given a lab order form by their provider can make a lab only appointment.
- Lab only appointments should be scheduled before leaving the Family Medicine Center.
- Lab only appointments are scheduled for the hours between 8am and 12noon (no afternoon or Saturday appointments can be scheduled).

If you decide not to make a lab only appointment:
- Walk-in appointments will still be available. Walk-ins will have to be worked into available space and may have to wait for those with appointments before being seen.
- Lab only appointments can be made once you leave the Family Medicine Center by email only (no call-ins please).
- Lab only appointments can only be scheduled for the hours between 8am and 12noon (no afternoon or Saturday appointments can be scheduled).
- Afternoon and Saturday appointments are by walk-in only.
- You will need to check-in at the front desk for lab only appointments.
Lab Results
- You will receive a letter in the mail within 3 weeks of your lab visit if your results are normal.
- If your results are abnormal or critical, your clinician will notify you.
- If you have not received your results within 3 weeks, please call 966-0210 and give the name of the clinician and the date of your lab test. You will receive a return call.
- If you have any other questions concerning your lab tests or results, please email the Family Medicine Center . Please include your clinician’s name an date of lab service.
You will receive a separate bill from the Hospital for Lab services provided.
