Maternal and Child Health Program

Welcome Families!

At UNC Family Medicine Center, we know how important your pregnancy, birth experience, and the first years of your child's life are to you and to your family. Our Maternal and Child Health Program takes pride in its ability to focus on these times in your life: offering evidence-based and family friendly prenatal care, personalized care during labor and delivery, and early childhood pediatric care. A combination of highly qualified attending physicians, well-trained and supervised resident physicians, nurse-midwives/practitioners, nursing staff, social work staff, and administrative personnel come together to provide you and your family the care, the compassion, and supportive community that you need and expect.

In keeping with UNC Healthcare's tradition of innovation and progress, we offer alternatives for your prenatal care. You can choose between a traditional care model, where you will have individual visits with one of a team of providers; a focused prenatal care model, where an uncomplicated pregnancy allows for fewer prenatal care visits to better accomodate your busy schedule; or our Group Prenatal Care model, where you and other women due in the same month will meet together with a facilitator (MD or CNM), nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel for a 90-minute group visit at appropriately scheduled intervals to share and learn from one another.

Of course, Family Medicine's care of your family does not end with birth! Our philosophy for pediatric care mirrors our philosophy for prenatal care, with care teams to help your child develop an ongoing relationship with a small group of providers. We also offer WellBabies, a group pediatric care model for the first year of life, where new families join together with a provider, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel for a 120-minute visit scheduled to coincide with recommended Well Child Visits. Moms and partners learn and share together while babies make their first friends!

Also, because our program is part of a larger family medicine center, we can offer care to your whole family at any age!

We hope to see you soon!
