Community Outreach

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Sports Medicine Fellowship understands the importance of community to our program. We believe in giving back to our community by providing comprehensive medical care to our local area high schools and universities. These schools include East Chapel Hill High School, Chapel Hill High School, Northwood High School, and Carrboro High School. We provide physician coverage at athletic events as well as pre-season competition sport physicals. We also provide medical care and pre-season competition physicals to local area universities including North Carolina Central University and Saint Augustine University. Additionally, we are now offering a Saturday Injury Clinic from August until December.

Special Olympics 2013

May 31-June 2, the fellows Dr. Pope, Dr. Vaughan along with Dr. (s) Taft, Stafford, Berkoff, Wanda Reed, and Lauretta Lowery volunteered during the 2013 Special Olympics Summer games.  Over 1400 athletes traveled to Raleigh to participate in aquatics, gymnastics, powerlifting, softball, and volleyball. With temperatures in the upper 90's the medical team was on hand daily to attend to minor medical needs and making sure they were well hydrated.
