Message from the Chair

Our goal at UNC Family Medicine is to help transform our health care system.
We know the US ranks approximately 35^th in the world (nearly tied with Costa Rica) based on objective measures such as life expectancy, infant mortality, and more.  We accomplish these lackluster results while spending vastly more than other industrialized nations.

But it doesn’t have to be this way!

We can improve quality.
We can improve cost-effectiveness.
We can reduce disparities.
We can improve the health of the communities we serve – all while putting patients at the center.

How?  With robust primary care.

UNC Family Medicine will continue to move forward on all levels to meet this goal – from training medical students to be personal doctors to clinical innovations that improve the care of individual patients.  From changes in office systems that improve quality of care and access at the practice level to developing leaders supported by teams and technology who will work at community, regional, and national levels to introduce these changes.
