UNC Family Medicine Offers FREE Spring Parenting Series

UNC Family Medicine is offering a FREE spring parenting series. Come join us as we explore topics like healthy diets for pregnancy, the secret language of your newborn and taming those tantrums. For your older children, we will discuss some harder topics like understanding learning disabilities and ADHD and how to talk to your teen about sex.

 


FREE Parenting Series


UNC Family Medicine Nurse Practitioners and celebrated child development specialist, Nancy Spencer (www.nancyspencerparenting.com) will lead groups in informative discussions.

  
Understanding the secret language of your newborn:
Tuesday February 21, 6:00 - 7:30pm
  Learn how to understand what your baby is trying to tell you. Prevent problems and encourage healthy habits around your baby’s eating, sleeping, crying, and attachment.

Six Easier Ways to Give Birth:
Tuesday March 6, 6:00 - 7:30pm  Learn how to care for yourself and your growing baby.  Discover all the choices you can make that will help you have a satisfying birth and healthy baby.

Helping your baby and child learn to sleep at night:
Tuesday March 27, 6:00 - 7:30pm  Sleep problems are an exhausting reality of parenting.  Learn strategies for avoiding and treating sleep problems in babies, toddlers, and young children. 

Taming tantrums for toddlers:

Tuesday April 17, 6:00 - 7:30pm  Learn simple and easy techniques to deal with challenging toddlers and young children (appropriate for parents of children age 15 mos - 3 years).

Disciplining the young child:
Tuesday April 24, 6:00 - 7:30pm
  Discover why children misbehave.  Learn techniques to deal with challenging young children (appropriate for parents of children age 3-8 years).


And New this year:

Understanding learning disabilities and ADHD in the school-aged child:
Tuesday May 8, 6:00 - 7:30pm  Parents struggle when they see their children struggle with school.  This class will help you understand how learning disabilities and ADHD impacts children age 8-14, when evaluation is needed, and how best to support your growing child.

Talking to your preteen about sexuality:
Thursday December 1, 6:30 – 8:00pm  Knowing how and when to talk to pre-teens is confusing for many parents.  This class will give you tips and techniques for having these important conversations as your child grows and develops.
