Biography

Mallory McClester Brown, MD began her role as Residency Director in August 2017.  Before this, she served as the final third year co-chief and the first fourth year chief resident in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 and the assistant residency program director from 2016-2017. Dr. McClester Brown values the opportunity to partner with incredible older adults in their healthcare journey every day, the chance to teach and mentor resident physicians throughout their training and beyond, the chance to work alongside such amazing teammates in the clinical setting, and the lifelong learning that is an innate part of academic medicine.

Dr. McClester Brown is originally from a small town in Northeast Ohio. She attended John Carroll University for her undergraduate training and completed medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Her desire to be a well-rounded clinician with training in full scope family medicine led her to the University of North Carolina for residency training. Prior to joining faculty, she completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at UNC. Dr. McClester Brown joined the department in 2014 and completed the part-time Faculty Development Fellowship in 2016. 

Areas of Interest

Dr. McClester Brown enjoys the opportunity to mentor and learn alongside residents as they move through their residency careers. She loves the chance to watch a bright and eager intern develop into a confident, caring, competent physician. Her clinical practice includes care of a full spectrum of patients, with a special interest in caring for older adults. She sees patients at the Family Medicine Center, a local continuing care retirement community, and in the inpatient setting. Her scholarly work and teaching interests are focused on care of the older adult and combatting ageism. She is the principle investigator of a HRSA Geriatric Academic Career Award and a HRSA Primary Care Training and Enhancement award. 

In her free time, Dr. McClester Brown enjoys spending time with her family. She enjoys spin classes, hiking, and exploring the world through her children’s eyes.
