ConnectCarolina provides the University and UNC General Administration with an integrated system that supports effective business processes for Student Administration, Finance, Human Resources and Payroll. Many finance roles require either computer-based training (CBT) or live trainings before the access is granted. Use the chart below to better understand the role and the trainings associated with each.

Budget Transfers Allows the user to enter, modify, and search for budget transfers. It also allows the user to delete budget transfers that have not been posted and resubmit budget transfers for approval after they’ve been denied. Managing Budgets and Creating Budget Journals

BuyCarolina Allows the user to place orders from the BuyCarolina marketplace. Also allows the user to view the status of the requisitions these orders are placed with and to make changes to those requisitions. Making a Purchase in BuyCarolina

Campus Vouchers Allows users to create campus vouchers for reimbursements for employees and University affiliates, independent contractor payments, cash advances, and petty cash replenishments. It also allows the user to use the Voucher Inquiry option to search for and display voucher information. Creating Campus Vouchers

Journal Entries Allows users to create campus journals, correcting campus journals, correcting JE, correcting voucher JE, and interunit campus journals. It also allows the user to edit campus journals that haven’t been posted and delete campus journals. Creating Journal Entries

Managing Assets Allows users to enter an asset’s  location, including searching for and viewing an asset, updating information, and reporting movement and status. Managing Assets for Campus Departments

Purchase Reqs and Receiving Allows the user to create a purchase requisition and make changes to them before they are submitted. It allows the user to view the status of, cancel, print, and make copies of requisitions.  It also allows the user to create a change order.  This role also allows the user to record receipts, make changes to receipts, handle returns, and close receipts short. Source Create Allows the user to request new fund sources or request changes to fund sources.  This job function is also included in the Journal Entries role (so no need to request both). Training is not required

University Deposits Allows the user to process incoming payments at the department or school level, using direct journal deposits. Also allows the user to update a deposit and view deposits. Making University Deposits

Enhanced Reporting Access for Finance LIMITED ACCESS Allows campus users to run queries in the RPT Reporting environment. MCU leads determine who needs to have enhanced reporting access. Staff members with this access can see information beyond their own department, so this
group is kept small to keep information secure. Requires approval from the MCU lead (proxy signatures are not accepted).
Training is not required.
Journal Import Access LIMITED ACCESS Allows user to import journals via flat file or Spreadsheet. This access requires approval of Accounting Services. Training is not required.
