Three practices in the immediate vicinity reflect the influence of a university setting with immediate access to tertiary and sub-specialty care. The other practices, most within a 1-hour commute of Chapel Hill, exhibit a rural nature with agriculture and light industry forming the economic base. Most of the practices take care of the spectrum of ages, including children, seniors, and pregnant women. Several of the sites have a mission to underserved care and inlcude a large Spanish speaking population. Daybacks are on Fridays. Please note that most of the teaching practices are outside of Chapel Hill, and the Department cannot guarantee a practice within city limits. AHEC housing is provided at the one site that is more than one hour away (in Smithfield).
