Dr. Dan McKay, Assistant Professor, Biology and Genetics and Integrative Program for Biological and Genome Studies (iBGS), has received an Early Stage Investigator R35 Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) for his project titled “Genetic and Epigenetic Mechanisms of Developmental Gene Regulation”.  Using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system, the proposed studies will investigate how the transcriptional programs underlying tissue identity are deployed in the proper temporal sequence during development.  The MIRA award mechanism is intended to increase the efficiency of NIGMS funding by providing investigators with greater stability and flexibility to enhance scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs and will provide funding for five years.
