Dr. William Valdar, Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Associate Director of the Curriculum in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB), was accepted to the UNC Graduate School’s Frank Porter Graham Honor Society in recognition of outstanding contribution to graduate education at UNC.

Dr. Valdar was nominated by 17 trainees and faculty members for this honor. The nominations highlighted how Dr. Valdar’s development of BCB 720 “Introduction to Statistical Modeling” has significantly advanced graduate education for students in numerous training programs. His course was been described as “a challenging, but highly rewarding course that through Dr. Valdar’s thoughtful instruction provides a necessary understanding of the foundational statistical principles required for analysis of biological data.” Dr. Valdar was also acknowledged for being an exceptional mentor to trainees within and outside of his laboratory and enhancing the operations of the BCB curriculum.
