The LCCC Genomics Core Facility (GCF) is open to everyone at UNC on a first come, first served basis. Users outside UNC are also welcome. The GCF offers microarray and library preparation services to measure gene expression and gene dosage.

Microarray services include RNA and DNA quality checks, RNA and DNA labeling and amplification, hybridization to microarrays, and scanning of microarrays (which includes analysis of data quality based on spiked-in controls where available).

Making a good quality library is a very important step in High Throughput Sequencing of your RNA. We prepare many types of RNA libraries from total RNA, including mRNA, total RNA (rRNA removed), and small RNA libraries. We also prepare libraries from RNA isolated from FFPE tissues. DNA library preparation is available for measuring changes in gene dosage. We offer services to measure the quality and quantity of your RNA and DNA, which is important to successful library preparation.

The Genomics Core Facility has a wide level of experience (1000s of samples processed) with gene expression analysis using microarrays and with library preparation (1000s of libraries prepared) for mRNA-seq by the High Throughput DNA Sequencing Core Facility. The Genomics Core Facility supports the Cancer Genome Atlas Project.* Large projects can be performed using automation.

    Submitting Samples to the LCCC Genomics  Core:

      Our -80C freezer is located in the basement of LCCC (take the elevator near the loading dock and go down to basement).

      Place the RNA/DNA samples and filled small form in a box in our -80C freezer (see photos below). Place your request forms in the blue bag on the front door of -80C freezer.

      Samples are transferred from LCCC to Carolina Crossing twice per week (Schedule on the front of -80C freezer).
