About

In my clinic, I am dedicated to caring for patients who suffer with inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. With a focus on shared decision-making, I aim to offer patients all of the available conventional and experimental treatment options, and then help them choose one that provides the best quality of life without exposing them to unnecessary risks. In my laboratory, we study how normal intestinal bacteria interact with the gut immune system to cause inflammation in mouse models of inflammatory bowel diseases. My group has published several research papers detailing how bacterial responses to intestinal inflammation affect the course of disease. Ultimately, we hope to discover processes in normal gut bacteria that can be manipulated with diet or other interventions to successfully treat inflammatory bowel diseases without suppressing the immune system.
