Mechanisms of epithelial barrier function in esophageal squamous epithelium, neosquamous epithelium and Barrett’s specialized columnar epithelium. Biomarkers of reflux esophagitis and Barrett’s esophagus and treatment strategies to improve mucosal defense against reflux injury.
