Bio and Research Interests
Dr. Nuzum received undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard University, and a M.A. in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University (U.K.). His internship and first year of residency were at the University of Kentucky Medical Center; senior residency and fellowship were at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston. After research on hepatic enzymes of urea synthesis and assistant professorship in gastroenterology at the University of Kentucky, he came to UNC as Department of Medicine liaison to the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program. He became that program's Associate Director for Clinical Affairs. He is now an active outpatient and consulting hepatologist, particularly in initial evaluation of patients with hepatitis C and other chronic liver diseases.
