Clinical Interests
Mrs. Maier currently works with Drs Yehuda Ringel and Yolanda Scarlett at the UNC Functional Bowel and Motility clinic. She is a graduate from the Wake Forest Physician Assistant program and obtained her Master's in Physician Assistant studies. She has worked in the UNC Division of Gastroenterology since 2003. She sees patients with a variety of motility disorders including, functional bowel issues, fecal incontinence and constipation. She also participates in research with Dr. Yehuda Ringel regarding the use of probiotics on GI health and participates in the use of the SmartPill to evaluate GI transit both clinically and through research. Clinic is also shared with Dr. Yolanda Scarlett, in which, there is focus on dyssynergic defecation, colonic inertia and fecal incontinence. She also interprets results from hydrogen breath tests (lactose, bacterial overgrowth, and Helicobacter pylori) and aids in interpreting and reporting results from anorectal manometries.
