Research Interests

Dr. Ransohoff's main interest is in colon cancer screening. Current research includes: assessment of molecular genomic and proteomic techniques for colon cancer screening; development and assessment of national policy for cancer screening and post-screening surveillance; decision-making processes of policy-organizations, physicians, and patients. He has published extensively on the use of colonoscopy screening and surveillance, fecal occult blood testing, sigmoidoscopy, and virtual colonoscopy; his most recent work concerns stool DNA testing, serum proteomics, and the development and assessment of other new ‘omics’ methods to screen for cancer. Working with NCI's EDRN (Early Detection Research Network) and others, he is leading a multi-institutional studies about serum proteomics to diagnose colon cancer. At UNC he has directed the K30 faculty development program since its inception in 1999, helping train junior faculty build careers in clinical and translational research.
