Research Interests

Esophageal Epithelial Structure and Function; Reflux Esophagitis, Barrett's Esophagus. Roy C. Orlando, M.D., is Professor of Medicine & Adjunct Professor of Cell and Molecular Physiology at UNC School of Medicine. His primary research interest is in the structure and function of esophageal epithelium and particularly as it relates to the pathogenesis of reflux esophagitis and Barrett’s esophagus. His research has been continuously funded by NIH for over 20 years. In 2003, he received the AGA-Janssen Award for ‘Sustained Achievement in Research in Digestive Disease’; in 2004 an NIH Research Merit Award, and in 2007 an AGA Mentors Research Scholar Award.
