In the United States, 160,000 people will develop colon cancer and nearly 60,000 will die in 2005. Early screening for colon cancer could help prevent almost all of these deaths. Colorectal Cancer is not gender specific. More men and women will die from colon cancer than from prostate cancer or breast cancer. There are very few early symptoms of colon cancer. In fact, if these types of cancers are found before they have spread, the five-year survival rate is 90 percent. Screening can also find cancer early, when treatment works best. Regular screening starting at age 50 can actually prevent colorectal cancer.
