FirstHealth, the University of North Carolina and Pinehurst Surgical worked in partnership to bring all three neurosurgeons to Moore Regional. The Pinehurst office of their Carolina Neurosurgical Services practice is located in the Pinehurst Surgical building on the Moore Regional campus, and there is a second office in Fayetteville. Under the agreement with UNC, all three neurosurgeons are full-time faculty-rank employees of the University of North Carolina, Division of Neurosurgery, and maintain staff privileges at both UNC Hospitals and FirstHealth Moore Regional. A fourth neurosurgeon is expected to join the Moore Regional program later this year.
“Patients will benefit the most from this expansion of services, which will provide greater neurosurgical access for both patients and the physicians who refer them for care,” says George D. Bussey, M.D., FirstHealth’s chief medical officer. “Dr. Kee is a skilled and experienced surgeon who is joining a highly successful and competent surgical team. We feel privileged to have all three of these fine surgeons on staff at Moore Regional.”
Dr. Kee received his bachelor’s degree in neuroscience cum laude from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., and earned his medical degree from the Emory University Sc hool of Medicine in Atlanta before performing an internship in surgery at The Emory Clinic. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the affiliated hospitals of Emory University.
Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Kee is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the American Medical Association. He is also a military veteran, having served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He practiced medicine for many years in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and served on the faculty of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine.
Dr. Kee joined the medical staff at Moore Regional in early January and now sees patients in both Pinehurst and Fayetteville.
Neurosurgery is a specialty that involves the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves and their supporting and surrounding structures, providing interventions for such conditio ns as aneurysm and various tumors as well as a variety of spine and spinal cord disorders.
